The initial appointment will be for a period of one year and any extension of the appointment is subject to extension of the mandate and/or the availability of funds.

The Executive Director position is located in the United Nations Register of Damage Caused by the Construction of the Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (UNRoD) in Vienna, Austria. UNRoD is a subsidiary organ of the General Assembly of the United Nations. It was established in 2007 by General Assembly Resolution A/RES/ES-10/17 of 15 December 2006. UNRoD's mandate is to serve as a record, in documentary form, of the damage caused to all natural and legal persons concerned as a result of the construction of the Wall by Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including in and around East Jerusalem.

Within delegated authority, the Director will be responsible for the following:
-Serve as Head of the Office of the Register of Damage and ex-officio member of the Board of the Register of Damage;
-Carry out diplomatic contacts with the two key parties concerned and with the relevant governments needed for the successful implementation of the mandate entrusted by the General Assembly;
-Report regularly (through the Secretary-General) to the General Assembly about the progress in the implementation of the General Assembly resolution;
-Develop, monitor and provide day-to-day policy guidance on the Implementation of the mandate by the office of the Register of Damage as outlined in relevant General Assembly resolutions and the Rules of procedure of UNRoD;
-Supervise all staff members of the Office of the Register of Damage and evaluate their performance;
-As an ex-officio member of the Board, responsible for reviewing all the claim cases and presenting them to members of the Board for Inclusion in the Register of Damage;
-Provide substantive and operational guidance to the team of UNRoD in the occupied Palestinian territory and lead fundraising efforts to support its activities;
-Perform other related duties as requested by the senior management of the Organization.
•Professionalism: Proven and successful negotiation and managerial skills. Proven knowledge of political issues in the Middle East. Excellent understanding of political,legal and operational aspects of the Register of Damage as outlined in the relevant General Assembly resolutions and the reports of the Secretary General. Thorough knowledge of UN policies, procedures and operations and in depth knowledge of substantive and operational aspects of the Register of Damage. Has proven analytical skills. An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, public administration, political affairs or related area is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
At least 15 years of progressively responsible professional experience in managing complex programmes and offices is required.
Successful experience in political analysis and diplomacy, policy planning and/or programming is required.
Proven excellent negotiating experience and skills are required.
Experience in managing and coordinating activities within the United Nations system or similar international organizations and in the field is desirable.
Proven successful fundraising experience is desirable.
Experience in policy formulation, management and budget in the United Nations system or similar international organization is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
