This position is located in the Office of the Director, Division on Globalization and Development Strategies, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Economics Affairs Officer reports to the Chief of the Training and Outreach Unit.

工作内容

Economic analysis
• Conducts policy research, as well as researches and monitors relevant developments in the areas of economic development.
• Analyzes developments to assess opportunities for integrating developing countries into South-South development financing arrangements and cooperation.
• Drafts substantive material such as inputs for technical papers, briefs and analytical studies, especially in the areas of finance and development.
• Prepares briefs on practical cooperation mechanisms and arrangements and assessments of opportunities for integrating developing countries as necessary.
• Conceptualizes, formulates, designs, plans, and manages DGDS’s training and outreach activities such as workshops, seminars, online courses, publication launches and news production and dissemination through media and social media channels.

Intergovernmental support
• Prepares contributions to reports such as policy briefs, issues notes, concept notes, and summary reports for intergovernmental, expert group meetings and seminars dealing with economic cooperation in collaboration with other members of the Unit.
• Suggests themes for panels and prepares inputs to concept notes to such meetings.
• Makes and assists with presentations on development issues for intergovernmental expert group meetings and seminars.

Technical cooperation
• Participates in missions on development issues, usually as a member of a team.
• Organizes training seminars for national experts.
• Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects.
• Contributes to the preparation of material for the approval of regional, country or sector technical cooperation projects.

General
• Promotes division’s official publications, particularly the Trade and Development Report (TDR), and other products through a variety of platforms including social media.
• Makes editorial decisions on what should appear on the Division on Globalization and Development Strategies (DGDS)’s social media platforms; drafts material for Division’s social media platforms.
• Liaises with universities, think-tanks, NGOs and other stakeholders to promote collaboration on capacity building and outreach activities, including preparing responses to requests for advice and/or assistance on economic issues and policies.
• Actively identifies and maintains relations and partnerships with key stakeholders that contribute to the development and implementation of Division's initiatives for outreach.
• Represents Division in the UN media communicators' group and liaises with media focal points in the UN system and outside the UN.
• Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s services.

• Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view; establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect; identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions; monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems; keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects; meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

专业要求

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

工作经验

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience related to economic development issues including cooperation and integration among developing countries.
Experience in developing and maintaining networks with civil society organizations, academia and other international organizations is desirable.
Professional experience in drafting and disseminating communication products for social media and for target audiences based on economic research or project results, including press releases, brochures, briefings, video clips, newsletters, and web platforms is desirable.
Experience in organizing economic dialogues involving developing countries is desirable.

语言要求

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

评估

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
