最近一段时间，日报持续追踪美国大选的最新消息，为大家带来各路劲爆的新鲜资讯。转眼间，激动人心的11月8号选举日就快要到了。看大(si)选(bi)看了这么久，不学几个专业的选举词汇那怎么行呢？

于是乎，今天小编就给大家整理了一些有关选举常见的词汇，大家一起学起来，吼吼~

基础篇：

看大选，总得知道希拉里和川普都是 presidential candidate 吧？

川普是共和党 the Republican Party 的候选人，希拉里则是 the Democratic Party 的候选人。（一个fool一个liar#调皮）

竞选的时候单打独斗那可不行，必须得有running mate呀对不对？

我们经常还看见这样的新闻：

endorse有“支持；赞同；认可；签署”的意思，在大选里，我们可以理解为“站队”。

选举篇：

美国的50个州可分为red states/ blue states, 以及非常关键的swing states, 或者叫purple states. 要问swing states 为什么这么关键？原谅小编没能把油管上的科普视频搬来，大家自行搜索一下好不好#么么哒

投票的地方叫voting/polling station

投票可以说是Cast a vote

如果是还没想好投谁的就叫undecided voter（未决定选民）

大选的投票分两种，popular vote（普选票）和

electoral vote（选举团所投的票）。决定最终谁胜出的是electoral vote.

electoral college：总统选举团（在美国由各州选民投票推选组成，集中在一起选举总统和副总统）(in the US) a group of people who come together to elect the President and Vice-President, based on the votes of people in each state.

辩论篇：

在三场总统辩论中，两位候选人频爆金句，其中好词也不少。

T:Our jobs are fleeing the country...Under my plan, I'll be reducing taxes tremendously...I look very, very much forward to doing it.(看来川普很喜欢这个词呀，三场辩论下来tremendous说了真的好多好多遍）

H: I call it trumped-up trickle-down, because that's exactly what it would be...I don't buy that.

trickle-down：涓滴效应，trump-up本意是“捏造”，希拉里一语双关，意思是川普要是上台了就会造成这样的效应。buy大家都知道是买的意思，这里是化用“buy the idea"的用法，意为”我不认同这点”。

T:I'm a great believer in all forms of energy, but we're putting a lot of people out of work.

在表示自己立场的时候我们常说“I believe..."或者加个副词”I strongly believe...", 用腻了我们也可以学习川普的说法”I am a great believer ...".

H:So we have a very robust set of plans.

robust：健壮的，坚定的，信心十足的。这个词非常好记，如果你还记得小时候的这个牌子。

H:Donald Trump is very praiseworthy of Vladmir Putin.

praiseworthy构词法同trustworthy，意为“值得称赞的”。

T:I have a winning temperament.She doesn't have the look, she doesn't have the stamina, I say she doesn't have the stamina, and I don't believe she has the stamina.

川普认为自己有“王者气质”，temperament，性格、气质；并攻击希拉里说她体力不好，stamina，体力、精力。

town hall debate: 第二场辩论采取的就是这种“问答大会”的形式，两位候选人可自由走动，现场观众可提问。

Xenophobia:GRE词汇，“对外国人的仇恨”。xeno-是前缀，表示alien；phobia恐惧症。常见的恐惧症还有：amaxophobia（乘车恐惧症）、kathisophobia（静坐恐惧症）、claustrophobia（密闭空间恐惧症），nomophobia（无手机恐惧症）等，这次大选还提到一种islamophobia （恐伊斯兰主义）。

T：“I'm looking to appoint judges very much in the mold of Justice Scalia.”

mold:模具。in the mold of:像···一样，带有···的特质一样。学会这个表达，以后说“像”就不仅仅是“like"或者“as"咯。

T: Well, I consider her statement about my children to be a very nice compliment.  

compliment 恭维，注意此compliment 非彼complement （补充）哦。

T:Putin has outsmarted her in Syria, he’s outsmarted her every step of the way.

outsmart:比···聪明。out-做前缀，意思是“超过”，类似的词还有outnumber(比···多），outlive(比···活得长）。不过out-做前缀还有一种意思是“向外”，如outsource(外包）。

H:Belittling women makes him bigger.

belittle，贬低、小看。说到这个我想到了川普的另一个词：

H:Women I've known over the course of my life. ..That their health is in jeopardy if they continue to carry to term.

over the course of:在···的时间里；jeopardy：危险。（这两个说法是不是很高级？）

H:Well I think the middle class thrives, America thrives.

thrive 一个词就能表达“繁荣昌盛，兴旺发达”的意思,霸气！（是的，我想到了川普的竞选口号）
